Boots, high-button style, of dark red silk satin brocade with black kidskin vamp, quarter, and baby French heel. Kidskin is decorated with cut-out pattern of rhododendron leaves underlaid with gold-colored kid. Scallop-edge closure along side with circular brass buttons.
Worn by Mrs. A. F. Ratray Grieg at Mrs. Potter Palmer's reception for the opening of her house on Lake Shore Drive. Mrs. Grieg was the daughter of David Rattray and Euretta Stuart who came to Illinois from New York in a covered wagon around 1837. Rattray is the one of the early settler familes in Chicago.
