Donna Becht was born in Chicago and raised in the Logan Square community area. Edward was also born in Chicago and lived in the West Town community area. At the time of the Democratic National Convention, they lived in Logan Square, and Edward was a Chicago police officer stationed at Lincoln Park Zoo. At 11pm every evening throughout the convention, Edward and the rest of his unit cleared people from Lincoln Park by walking in a single line west from the zoo toward North Clark Street. Although Edward did not support the protests or the protestors, he did not understand why the police had to clear the park since most people were under control.
