Collection Summary +/-
Black-and-white negatives photographed by Carrie Ellen Mears depicting her homes, her friends, and small towns in Michigan. Includes interior and exterior views of Mears family residences in Chicago and Pentwater (Michigan), and a few scenes of the lumbermill in nearby Mears (Michigan). Also includes views of Duck Lake, Lincoln, Pt. Sable, and Walkerville in Michigan, in particular scenes of a general store, a blacksmith, farms, and an American Indian camp. Individual and group portraits of friends depict leisure activities such as picnics, bicycling, and swimming. Photonegatives are identified.
Biographical/Historical Note +/-
Carrie Ellen Mears (1880-1957) was an amateur photographer whose family owned a lumbermill. She was the daughter of Charles Mears, about whom she wrote a monograph titled, "Charles Mears, pioneer of the White Lake area."
