Collection Summary +/-

Black-and-white photographic prints, albums, negatives, and transparencies; color transparencies; cyanotypes; hand-colored lantern slide; and printed materials related to the Orville B. Carlisle family and engineering work. Images primarily depict views of Carlisle and family at holiday (social) gatherings in Illinois and Wisconsin and on vacations at Miami Beach, Guatemala, Cuba, Mexico and Alaska (1930-1950). Also included are informal views of Carlisle and friends boating, swimming and sunning on the beaches of Lake Michigan (1910-1920); views of Milwaukee and Waukesha, Wisconsin in the early 1900s, probably Carlisle's early home; and various water filtration plants (some under construction) where Carlisle worked or inspected. Original negatives do not match prints but some are similar.

Biographical/Historical Note +/-

Orville B. Carlisle was an engineer for the Water Works Design Department for the Chicago Bureau of Engineering.
