Collection Summary +/-

Research materials, published articles and papers, interview guides and transcripts, correspondence, grant proposals and expenditure reports, sound recordings, and other papers of William Simon, a sociologist who studied human sexuality. Materials primarily relate to Simon's work at the Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) in Chicago, especially his involvement in a study of working-class youths. Also present are materials related to Simon's work at the Institute for Sex Research (ISR) at Indiana University and to Simon's scholarly research, publications, and presentations. Some materials compiled by James R. Bennett are included.

Biographical/Historical Note +/-

William Simon (1930-2000) was a sociologist, professor, and author who studied human sexuality. Simon received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1967. Simon taught at Southern Illinois University, Indiana University, and the University of Houston; acted as senior research sociologist at the Institute for Sex Research (later known as the Alfred C. Kinsey Institute for Sex Research) at Indiana University (ca. 1965-1967) and director of anthropology and sociology programs at the Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) in Chicago (ca. 1968-1975); conducted research; and wrote numerous books and articles.
