Visual materials relating to Ben Reitman and associates

Primarily includes group and individual portraits relating to physician and social activist Ben Reitman. Some images show his family and associates, such as his first wife Anna Reitman (d. 1930), anarchists Emma Goldman and Nina Van Zandt, and labor leader Eugene Debs. Includes some identified portraits inscribed for Reitman by men and women. Some photographs show groups of unemployed people, called hoboes, whose cause was espoused by Reitman, who founded the Hobo College on West Madison Street. Includes a few indentified and unidentified homes. Some portraits are sketches or photographs of artistic portraits. Most group portraits are snapshots.
