Curatorial Statement | World War II brought about many new advancements in textile production that eventually made their way into fashion. The material of this ensemble, silk gazar, became popular during the 1960s due to its crisp finish that held its shape without the need for cumbersome support garments. This haute couture wedding ensemble was originally purchased by Marshall Field & Co. to promote high fashion. After the season passed and the retail industry looked to the next trend, it was sold at Field's Import Sale, where it was purchased and worn in Chicago. |
