Physical Description | Dress (L.1974.33) of off white silk satin. Low, square neckline; fitted bodice. Satin and net cap sleeves. Front is decorated with embroidered floral pattern, rhinestones, and glass beads. Additional embroidery extends up from the hem of the skirt. Net ruffle and small weights at bottom hem. Floor-length skirt; full in back. Train (L.1974.14) is nine feet in length from shoulders to hem. The top side is of cut velvet with iris pattern in silk satin; underside is silk satin with rhinestones at border. Squared hem. |

Curatorial Statement | Palmer wore this gown when she was presented to the Court of Saint James in London. Court rules dictated each detail of the construction of this gown, including color, style, type of train, and embellishment. The detachable train measures nine feet from shoulders to hem. |
