Dress, evening-style, of light pink tulle with silver-colored sequin and rhinestone trim. Fitted strapless bodice decorated with small sequined swirls, which grow larger and further apart until bottom hem. Natural waist. Complex tulle understructure creates volume in bouffant skirt.
Object was donated and worn by dancer and choreographer Ruth Page (Mrs. Thomas Hart Fisher).
The bell-shaped skirt and overall silhouette of this dress requires a complex understructure to support the shape. The dress has an understructure stitched into the garment that is composed of several layers of tulle attached to a torso-length girdle. This understructure provides the shape of the skirt, cinching the waist and torso while providing support for the breasts. The wearer simply "stepped in" to the gown to be ready for the evening.
