From Dior's 1949 "New Look" collection.
Christian Dior often repeated successful themes or designs from his couture lines for the Dior-New York ready-to-wear styles the following season. Another suit in the Chicago History Museum's collection, object number 1977.127.3a-e, illustrates this process. This suit is a couture original while the suit inspired by it was designed for the New York ready-to-wear salon and cost a fraction of the couture price.
