Susan Alexander purchased this skirt suit at Kauffman's, "First in Fashion" which opened at a new location, 744 North Michigan Avenue in 1968. The clothing store belonged first to her grandparents and then to her mother and uncles. The donor remembers wearing the suit to a birthday dinner in the late 1960s.
Curatorial Statement
The donor wore this suit frequently while working as a law clerk for a federal district judge, Judge Julius J. Hoffman. "I felt very professional in it" she recalled. She paired it with a white ruffled blouse. Later, Mrs. Alexander combined the jacket with a pair of pants of the same color and fabric she purchased at Marshall Field & Co.
