Diary written in pencil by Private William D. Huff of the 13th Louisiana Infantry Regiment, C.S.A., while he was a prisoner at Camp Douglas, Chicago (Ill.), during the Civil War. Includes approximately 30 drawings of the prison camp, daily life, and punishments. Topics of the diary include escape attempts, harsh punishments, privations, disease (smallpox), and other prisoners and the guards. The diary begins after Huff was captured at the Battle of Chickamauga and sent to Camp Douglas and ends when Huff was paroled and returned to his home in St. Mary's Parish (La.).
