At the time of its opening in 1983, Chicago's Neiman Marcus was the largest outside of Texas. The Tribune reported, "On a street that is rapidly becoming a Who's Who of American retailing, Neiman Marcus plans to set itself apart through its [customer] service and a heavy salting of exclusives."
