Physical Description | Evening dress; of black silk jersey with pleated white cotton organdy applique: one thin shoulder strap attaches at left shoulder diagonally across to right of center back; sheath style, with large white pleated leaf applique that attaches from the proper left hip up and across to the right shoulder; ankle length. |

Object History | The donor, Marilyn Miglin wore this sophisticated Bill Blass dress to the Marshall Field's Boys Club Black and White Dinner in 1982, for which she was the guest of honor. Miglin founded the Marilyn Miglin Cosmetics Institute in the 1960s. She went on to create a cosmetics and later became a pioneer of the Home Shopping Network. |
Curatorial Statement | Bill Blass was a highly successful American designer. He featured this sculptural design in advertisements in Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. |
