RICHARD A. CHASE
View looking south down Lake Shore Drive. The Drake Hotel sits to the north of the Palmolive Building blocking the lower portion from view. The Palmolive building glows with light and sends a beacon to the north.
Chicago painter and booster Richard A. Chase was a prominent muralist in Chicago in the 1930s. In watercolors and oils, Chase documented and glorified the construction of the city, from the bright-orange steel bridges of Lake Shore Drive and the rough unfinished power of the "L" to the majesty of the Merchandise Mart and the gleaming polish of the Palmolive Building.
