RICHARD A. CHASE
A view looking west on East South Water with small warehouse buildings set against the skyline. A man and woman are walking in the foreground while trucks are moving and unloading further down the street.
Chicago painter and booster Richard A. Chase was a prominent muralist in Chicago in the 1930s. In watercolors and oils, Chase documented and glorified the construction of the city, from the bright-orange steel bridges of Lake Shore Drive and the rough unfinished power of the "L" to the majesty of the Merchandise Mart and the gleaming polish of the Palmolive Building.
