RICHARD A. CHASE
A large vessel in tow by a steam tug is shown moving under the upraised Franklin-Orleans St. bridge; the southwest corner of the Merchandise Mart on the right. Small orange speedboat on left.
Chicago painter and booster Richard A. Chase was a prominent muralist in Chicago in the 1930's. In watercolors and oils, Chase documented and glorified the construction of the city, from the bright-orange steel bridges of Lake Shore Drive and the rough unfinished power of the "L" to the majesty of the Merchandise Mart and the gleaming polish of the Palmolive Building.
