The Council of War commemorates the victorious military leadership of the Union, consisting of President Abraham Lincoln, Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton, and General Ulysses S. Grant. It is one of thousands produced by John Rogers's New York studio between 1860 and 1893 for a middle-class market. |
