Used by Everett H. Rexford, Bugler for Battery A, Chicago Light Artillery, during the Civil War. Mr. Rexford was the father of the donor.
Each soldier's day began with a bugle reveille call accompanied by the beating of drums. Soldiers also marched to the beat of drums and in battle rallied to the sound of bugles. Everett H. Rexford enlisted at the age of twenty-two and served with Battery A, Chicago Light Artillery, in the Vicksburg and Atlanta campaigns.
