Curatorial Statement
Henry Horner, a founding member of Kehilath Anshe Ma’ariv (KAM), arrived in Chicago from Bohemia in 1841. He operated one of the city's earliest wholesale groceries, located at Randolph and Canal Streets, and helped establish the Chicago Board of Trade. He and his wife, Hannah, had eleven children. Their grandson Henry Horner served as the first Jewish governor of Illinois from 1933 to 1940.
