This figurine of a girl was damaged in the Chicago Fire of 1871 and saved as a memento of the destruction.
This Object was one of the many personal effects found scattered throughout city after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. In 36 hours between October 8th and 9th, the fire destroyed three and a half square city miles of city and the homes of one-third of the city's inhabitants. It also claimed nearly 300 lives. After the fire ended, work crews and ordinary residents found and saved small items such as this figurine as reminders of the fire's destructive force.
