It is not a mere coincidence that Valentino chose a print of black panthers to create this 1967 evening gown. The Black Panther Party was founded in California a year prior. Social change never influenced fashion more so than it did in the late 1960s. The feminists, civil rights and environmental movements as well as the War in Vietnam, greatly affected clothing design well into the 1970s.
