Curatorial Statement
This wedding dress is the oldest in the Museum's collection to be worn without a corset. This looser style came into fashion during World War I when many women took over the jobs that men left when they went abroad to serve. When the war ended, women continued wearing comfortable clothing that was less restrictive than pre-war styles.
