Coat of dark blue Borgana and man-made plush lined with white and orange rayon satin; round neckline; center front opening with clutch closure; long, deep dolman sleeves; voulant cuffs; mid-calf length.
In the late 1950s, James created a limited number of designs for Albrecht Furs using a faux fur called Borgana, which was supplied and marketed by the company. Although James liked to experiment with manmade materials for the interiors of his garments, he seldom used them on the exteriors. Three of these coats are known to exist; all are identical.
James constructed this coat using a form. After shaping the form, he draped material around it to create a pattern.
