Collection Summary +/-

Materials documenting James Alexander's involvement as a board member for the Center on Halsted, the Chicago High School for the Arts (CHSA), and the Chicago History Museum (CHM), including the planning and founding of the CHSA and the CHM Out in Chicago initiative. CHSA materials include meeting agendas and minutes, correspondence, planning and policy development documents, publicity materials, location planning files, and fund-raising material. The CHM materials primarily document the events from 2001-2007, including the Out at CHM events and Out in Chicago exhibition.

Biographical/Historical Note +/-

While conducting a law practice in Chicago, James Alexander contributed his time and expertise to a number of Chicago cultural and other nonprofit institutions. His contributions came through board service, advice, leadership, and directing philanthropic support. He served on the boards of 15 Chicago nonprofits, including the Center on Halsted, the Chicago History Museum, and Chicago's High School for the Arts.
