| Object History | Worn by donor's grandmother, Annie Louisa Libby on the occasion of her marriage to Mr. William French Burrows, September 7, 1880 and again by donor on June 13, 1942, on the occasion of her marriage to Mr. Lawrence Dawson. |
| Curatorial Statement | This and another one in the Museum's collection (1964.895a-b) show the transition in skirt style in the 1880s. At the beginning of the decade, the bustle was flat with a long sweeping train, and by the mid-to-late 1880s, the bustle was much more pronounced, jutting out directly from the waist. Both dresses have a similar design to the sleeve cap, which is covered in lace exposing the bride's shoulder. This dress was worn again in 1942 by Annie Burrows's granddaughter. |
