| Description | Dress, evening-style, of black silk taffeta. Fabric is printed with large roses in red and greens. Strapless fitted bodice. Attached inner foundation of stiff black tulle and boning. Zip closure at side. Floor length. Three-tiered bustle attaches to back of skirt at the knee, brushing the ground slightly. |

| Curatorial Statement | This form-fitting sheath with bustle is from Christian Dior's second-to-last collection. A handwritten label inside the dress states that the piece was made for Marshall Field. The dress also appeared in a Chicago Daily News ad that proclaimed, "Dior Dominates Collection at Field's." Muriel Newman later purchased the sheath and donated it to the Museum in 1978. |
