| Curatorial Statement | Gilbert Adrian was a costume designer at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the 1930s and 1940s, retiring in 1942 to open his own fashion house. In 1947 he told Life magazine, "American women's clothes should be streamlined in the daytime." A year later he created this suit, showing a dramatic use of stripes and impeccable tailoring. |
