| Description | Dress (a) of dark blue silk taffeta. Strapless, fitted bodice has sweetheart neckline. Bouffant skirt with pleated waistline. Falls below the knee. Jacket (b) of self-fabric. Short and fitted, with deep V-shaped neckline in front and bateau neckline in back. Short sleeves. Jacket wraps right over left and fastens with a side hook closure. Shawl collar (c) of pleated white silk organza. Detachable. Dark blue silk fabric bow at center front. |

| Curatorial Statement | Of the spring 1956 collection- the Tulip line- Vogue reported, "Not since 1947 and Dior's famous first Collection have Paris fashions had such a rush of femininity- nor have there been so many bravos at the dramatic end of an opening." The small jacket cut high to reveal the waist of the skirt, called a "Caraco" was a common element of the Tulip line. |
