Dress, wedding-style, of white silk taffeta, lace, and pearl bead trim. Tight-fitting bodice with back button closure; short sleeves. Full, floor-length skirt with lace panel down back; taffeta bows at back of waist and halfway down the back of skirt; slight train.
Worn by Helen Daggett Harvey, daughter of donor, at her marriage to Raph Mills, Jr. on November 25, 1959, at Holy Name Cathedral.
Curatorial Statement
The severe angle of this waist is created with numerous layers of petticoats stitched into the gown. Petticoats were typically separate garments, but if the skirt required a specific understructure for its shape, petticoats were often part of the dress.
