| Description | Dress, day-style, of light brown wool. Button-down bodice with spread collar; short cuffed sleeves. Center front closure has three plastic buttons. Wide pleats start at bustline. Skirt falls just below the knee. Dress can be worn with a belt. |

| Object History | This gown is from the first Dior New York Collection designed by Christian Dior. It should be belted very tightly at the waist with a rust colored belt. Worn by donor, Mrs. William Englehaupt (Dorothy Fuller). Dorothy Fuller's name is synonymous with Chicago fashion; she has worked in the industry for more than fifty years. During the Dior era, Fuller was assistant fashion director of Marshall Field & Co. She also started her own business, Dorothy Fuller Productions, which grew into the largest fashion consulting and show production company in the United States. Fuller is also known for her service as president of Chicago's Apparel Industry Board. |
