| Object History | Worn by Paul B. Norland as a page at the wedding of Mattie Quales and Ernst A. Erickson in 1897. The wedding took place at the Quales family homestead at 1951 West Schiller Street, Chicago, where Mr. and Mrs. Erickson lived after their marriage. Mrs. Erickson's cousin was Victor F. Lawson, founder of the Chicago Daily News. |
| Curatorial Statement | Although seldom seen today, page boys were a tradition taken from royal British affairs, and they were often dressed in military uniforms or historical fashion. Page boys were typically responsible for carrying the length of the bride's train. This well-made costume was created in the style of late-eighteenth-century menswear and was worn by a family friend of Mattie Quales at her wedding to Ernst A. Erickson. |
