Dress (a), wedding-style, of off white Alenon lace over heavy white silk satin. Square neckline. Straight, wrist-length sleeves. Ankle-length full skirt with small train at back. Train (b) of heavy white satin; very long. Headdress (c) of self-fabric, in the style of a headband. Eleven leaves (d) of self-fabric for hair decoration. Seven flowers (e) of self-fabric for hair decoration. Headdress and hair decorations not shown.
Worn by donor, née Lawrie Bowes, on February 1, 1969 to her wedding with Edward Reilly Weed. The wedding took place at Quigley Seminary Chapel, Chicago and the reception at the Woman's Athletic Club, Chicago. The dress was designed for donor as a gift by Shannon Rodgers for Jerry Silverman. He also designed eight bridesmaid dresses, none of which still exist. Lace flower headdresses designed by Adolfo.
Curatorial Statement
In addition to donating the dress, the bride also donated two wedding photo albums, original designer sketches, and articles about the announcement of the wedding.
