Dress of off white chiffon. Round neckline with rectangular cutouts. Sleeveless. Heavy silver-colored beading in a floral pattern at bust and thigh areas, and a geometric pattern of squares and horizontal stripes at waist and hem areas. Falls below the knee.
Worn by Mamie Buffenstein on occasion of her marriage to William Nathan (born in Germany, 1882, died in Chicago October 1954) on June 3, 1924 in her parent's home at 1310 S. Lawndale Avenue, Chicago.
Curatorial Statement
Bandeau bras and other "shape reducers" flattened a woman's figure to give her the desirable silhouette of the 1920s. The simple construction of this dress (two straight side seams and two small shoulder seams) is made special with rich glass-bead embroidery.
