Dress, evening-style, of black silk chiffon. Halter-style neck with single hook closure at nape. V-shaped neckline. Dress is ornamented by a self-fabric ruffle traveling up from the bottom hem, around the neck, and back down to hem. Additional ruffle at bottom edge of dress. Floor-length.
Worn by donor, née Abra Prentice, born on July 30, 1942, married on September 14, 1968, and divorced in 1976.
Curatorial Statement
This dress is from the 1970s, the most successful decade of Halston's career. Its bias-cut and draped style fits perfectly with the glamour of the disco-era. Roy Halston was born in Iowa and later moved to Chicago to attend to the School of the Art Institute. He opened a millinery studio in Chicago in the early 1950s and later moved to New York to start his dressmaking career.
