Dress of pleated blue polyester. Comprised of three layers: outermost is dark blue, middle layer is medium blue, and inner layer is light blue. Dress wraps around body twice and is held in place with a series of buttons at left side. Open standing collar allows fabric to drape and reveal all three layers. Falls just below the knee.
Donor Laura Barnett Sawchyn wore this dress at an evening event in Chicago in 2008.
Curatorial Statement
This dress is made from one inner sheath with a long rectangular piece of cloth extending from the wearer's right side. This panel is wrapped twice around the body and held in place with a series of buttons. The permanently pleated polyester, a trademark of Issey Miyake, clings to the body, allowing for ease of fit while flattering the natural curves of the female form.
