| Object History | Worn by Mrs. Bertha Honoré Palmer. |
| Curatorial Statement | Mrs. Palmer achieved a place in European society that was extremely rare for an American. Once again, not only did Bertha Palmer enter society, she ruled it. The press alluded to reports that she once "spurned the hand of King Peter of Serbia . . . spent $200,000 in a single season at Ascot . . . and played golf with King Edward." At Ascot, a fashionable horserace in England, England's Queen Alexandria reportedly bowed to Mrs. Palmer in 1909. |
