Dress, day-style, of dark blue Thai silk. Fitted bodice with shawl collar. Slightly padded shoulders; bracelet sleeves with white scalloped organdy cuffs. Six mother-of-pearl buttons at front closure. Natural waist; faux peplum at hips. Self-fabric belt. Knife pleats on skirt. Falls to mid-calf.
Worn by Mrs. Harry Drake (1907-1997), née Alice Bremner. This dress was featured in the March 1951 issue of American Vogue.
Curatorial Statement
The pleated sections falling from the hips hang freely from the straight skirt beneath. The white embroidered cuffs and molded bodice reflect a renewed interest in femininity amongst designers of the post-World War II era.
